Riga Opera Festival in June, 2020
Founded in 1998 as the first festival of its size and scale in Eastern Europe, it has already become a treasured tradition. The festival is highly anticipated by both Latvian audiences and opera-lovers from abroad, which form the majority of all Riga Opera Festival fans.
DAY 1, 04.06.2020
Arrival in
Riga, transfer to Hotel EUROPA ROYALE ****, check in. Welcome meeting. Optional walking tour (1 hour) to National Opera house, incl. welcome drink Schwarzaupterhaus.
DAY 2, 05.06.2020
Today we start with morning walking tour in the medieval Old Town of Riga which will lead you down the
cobbled stone streets highlighting the most beautiful places of this ancient
city: Riga Castle, the Dome Square and Dome Cathedral, St.
Peter's Church, the Town Hall Square and the House of Blackheads , the Great
and Small Guild Halls, Liivs' Square and the Great and the Small Guild Halls,
Three Brothers - the architectural complex of the 15th and 17th
centuries, Swedish Gates. Tour will end with an organ music concert at Riga Dome Cathedral (20 min). Afternoon free.
19:00 Opera performance "DON GIOVANNI". Overnight.
DAY 3, 06.06.2020
Today we start with charming district of Art
Nouveau (Jugendstil) buildings
and art Nouvau museum on Alberta Street. And after we continue to Jurmala which is located just 25 km from Riga.
It is a summer resort-town that has formed of numerous fishing villages and is
famous for its charming wooden cottages dating back to the 1890-s, pine
forests, the calm River Lielupe, vigorous air and kilometres long golden sand
beaches. The tour leads through the villages of Jurmala along the wooden summer
cottages and beautifully renovated rich houses. You will stop in Majori, the
heart of the town for a walk along the Jomas street, the liveliest street of
Jurmala passing by along small coffee-bars, restaurants of all kind of cuisines
and small souvenir shops. The street ends at the Dzintari Concert Hall and the
beach of the Gulf of Riga. Enjoy a relaxing walk along the beach, the rustle of
the sea waves and wind. Afternoon free.

DAY 4, 07.06.2020
Free day or Optional tour to Rundale Palace which is Latvia's version of Versailles Sans
Soucis and a pearl of Baroque architecture in the Baltics. It is located just
76 km from Riga surrounded by plains and forests of Zemgale (the southern
region of Latvia). The palace was built in the 18th century for
Ernst Johan von Biron, the Duke of Courland. It was designed by the famous
Russian Court architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli, who has also designed the Winter
Palace in St. Petersburg. Today this
place is subtly restored and 40 of its more than 100 rooms and halls with
original interior and furniture are opened for visitors in all their
splendour. A French
park that surrounds the palace also designed by F.B.Rastrelli lies in the
southern part of the palace territory. It is newly made according to the
original design of the 18th century.
